Tirana, Lezha & Shkodra Day Trip

Start off your day trip in Tirana city center with a visit to Skanderbeg Square. See the statue of Skanderbeg, Albania’s national hero, before heading to the Clock Tower of Tirana. At 35 meters (115 ft) tall it has 90 stairs that go in a spiral fashion. Next up, visit the Et’hem Beu Mosque. Admire the frescos outside which depict trees, waterfalls and bridges. Delve back in time on a trip to Albania’s National Historical Museum – packed with interesting information on how the country has developed over time. Exhibitions cover the various facets of Albania’s history, from Antiquity to Medieval and Albanian resistance during World War II to Communist Terror. For those interested in art, a visit to the National Art Gallery will complete your introduction to Tirana. Next up, set off towards the town of Shkodra. On the way you’ll stop in Lezha and visit the mausoleum of Skanderbeg. There’ll also be time to visit Lezha Castle, located at the top of a hill overlooking the town. Upon arrival in Shkodra, visit the National Photo Gallery Marubi, named after Gege Marubi, 19th-century master photographer. It has an exposition of old prints starting with the oldest photograph in the Balkans in 1856. You will also visit the House of Oso Kuka, a traditional Shkodra house that hosts the town’s archaeological museum. Afterwards, visit the Mesi Bridge – an old bridge built in the mid 18th century with beautiful mountain scenery as its backdrop. Enjoy lunch by the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula, where the local carp are said to be absolutely delicious. Last up on the itinerary is Rozafa Castle, a former Illyrian stronghold situated atop a rocky hill. Afterwards the tour will head back to Tirana.
